Commuting Patterns

When you stop using the car and start cycling, there is a change in household consumption patterns. Fuel consumption is reduced and families have two possibilities: they either save more money on a daily basis or spend on other products. Based on this assumption, Boost methodology will estimate, on a national and regional scale, the impacts of reducing fuel consumption and increasing expenditures on other products according to pre-established scenarios. This type of benefit is usually referred to in the literature as one of the “shadow benefits” (Ferreira, Barata, Ramos, & Cruz, 2014) of the use of soft pendular displacement means.
