Portugal is being invaded by a new form of mobility. Cycling is fashionable and, with or without cycle paths, it is a travel option for hundreds of Portuguese commuters. But this is where the problem arises. The specific routes for this type of vehicles seem increasingly insufficient.
To respond to this challenge, the Portuguese government has announced that it will invest 300 million euros in these paths, under the plan Portugal Ciclável 2030, totalling one thousand kilometres, in several localities of the country. The financing will be made through the Environmental Fund and the municipalities shall submit proposals that will be later reviewed. In total, the state plans to invest in 110 cycle paths over a 12-year period.
