The recent cyclist deaths have pushed New York to design a 58.4 million $ plan that aims to increase cycling infrastructure and safety throughout the city.

The plan includes projecting new infrastructure, enforcing existing regulations, legislation, policies and more education to increase road safety.

In the case of the cycling infrastructure, more than 128 km of protected cycle lanes will be implemented until 2021. Additionally, intersection design will be improved in order to make them safer.

Furthermore, rules against speeding, failing to yield and blocking bike lanes will be enforced.

Simultaneously, the Off-Hour Deliveries Program will be expanded to reduce accidents between cyclists and delivery vehicles.

Lastly, there is an intention to alter improper road behaviour with policies, legislations and educational campaigns, namely with the launch of the last phase of the Vision Zero campaign.
